how do you isolate dextromathorpan from OTC cough syrup?

I just recently learned about dextromethorphan, and I heared that you can get it from cough syrup. I also heard that it can be harmful if you take it with the other substances in the cough syrup. I've just started getting into organic chemistry so I don't know how to do it on my own, but I hoping that some one on here could help me. One more thing, Im not dumb enough to try this right away as i'll wait to get better at organic chemistry to see if it check out.
